Rwanda Partnership 2026
As a mom of four, the demands of parenting responsibilities never end, and there isn’t a “good time” to step away and join your spouse on a mission trip. It was challenging to trust God’s plan, leave things to loved ones, and walk in obedience. I had also never traveled outside the country before. I put it all in God’s hands, and He proved faithful.

Ashley Pund, a member of our Greer campus, shares her recent experience traveling with a team of 15 to provide teacher training, first aid training, pastoral training, and needed construction in Bikingi, Rwanda, alongside Reach the Children of Rwanda International (RCRI). This local non-profit organization, led by Benjamin Musuhukye, helps with ongoing restoration efforts in a community still reeling from the effects of a devastating genocide.

People showed up to help every day—whether carrying heavy bricks on their heads or chipping away at the lava rock foundation—the whole village helped build a home for two single moms. The new home, the village, and the school we partner with are all very close in more ways than one.

The Greer campus sponsors 120 vulnerable children in Rwanda through RCRI—helping to provide nutrition, quality schooling, and support. Greer folks rallied together to send the team with 23 suitcases full of school and hygiene supplies. The school, Nyabihu Christian Academy, relies on raising chickens and cultivating a flourishing garden to feed children and provide a Christ-centered education. Ashley and her family sponsor an 8-year-old girl who loves to jump rope and dreams of becoming a doctor. The two were able to meet.

In addition to construction and training, we visited families in their homes, heard their prayer requests, and prayed over them. They’re in a very dry season right now, and crops are months behind. A lot of their prayers are for food. One family asked us to pray for the youngest of their four little girls. She didn't have a sponsor and couldn't go to school. That night, God answered our prayers and provided her with a sponsor. Seeing her go to school the next day was a huge blessing!

Ashley described the joys of attending local worship services alongside Rwandan brothers and sisters in Christ, praying for the church to expand and reach more people, and the impact of learning that some had walked well over an hour just to attend.

The village is extremely close-knit. At the school, everyone plays a part in serving someone else. Each group serves another at lunch, and plates are passed around so every hand takes part in caring for another. We had the honor of being a part of this experience during one of our meals. Looking back, we learned so much from them. It’s a true partnership.
