Missional Living Groups | Taylors
Several discipleship groups at our Taylors campus have been involved in a Missional Living class which has challenged them in practical ways to grow their faith and live missionally. They have aimed to serve vulnerable people groups in our community and out in the world. Members learn about immigrants, refugees, and low income communities while engaging in service projects by partnering with ministries such as Front Porch Housing, JUMPSTART, and World Relief. Groups come alongside refugee families in our community and lend practical support by accompanying family members to doctor appointments, taking them to English classes, assisting them in the grocery store, providing home-cooked meals, and developing friendships.
Engaging with families in the midst of cultural and language barriers can seem difficult, but members have found these challenges to be a fruitful experience. Group members Asa and Amber Reini reflect, “It’s uncomfortable at times. It’s different. You go with the flow and do the best you can to embrace it. We are so glad we did. Even when we don’t know exactly what the situation will look like, or what our role will be, or how we will fill it, we’ve just been faithful to move into it, trusting that the Lord will provide.”
They have found that communication, friendship, and meaningful connection happen despite barriers. A family they have been serving has a toddler nearly the same age as their own. The Reinis encourage, “It’s amazing how a five minute drive can still make such a big impact. Before long, our daughter has come to get excited about these trips and she sings songs to their child on the short drive.”
Program leader, Hugo Muraco, says, “The Missional Living groups have shown us that these challenges can be within our capabilities. God has met us in the unexpected and taught us a lot of things. We hope to create a life rhythm, to ignite something in each person which would inspire them to take a chance in the future and serve people around them.”
To wrap up the end of their class in May, participants will take a trip to Costa Rica to partner with Filters of Hope.
