What is the Student Creative Arts Collective?

This program is intended to equip 7th–12th grade students at Grace Church to grow in artistic skill while learning to use their gifts to glorify God. Through disciplines like studio art, dance, acting, and creative writing, students will receive high-quality instruction from experienced artists and teachers. But more than that, they’ll be invited to explore the deeper purpose of creativity—as a reflection of the Creator and a means of worship, service, and discipleship.

FAQs

How does this relate to the church mission?

Our church mission is to “...make mature followers of Jesus Christ, by equipping them for a life of spiritual passion that impacts…” This program seeks to equip our students in creative expression and provide our members expanded pathways to glorify God through the impact of artistic expression.

How is this different from a school arts program?

This program will challenge students to grow in their discipline, while grounding them in the understanding that their gifts are meant for worship, not self-promotion. We will seek to hone skill, craft, and artistic excellence to honor God — not to elevate ourselves.

Who is eligible to participate?

7th through 12th grade students who are actively involved in 24Seven or Forge, and have a developing skill in one of the included areas of art.

How many students will be accepted into each discipline?

This is still to be determined, but the target size is 15 for manageable and effective classes.

What is the required commitment level?

Students must be available weekly for the full class period. There will also be a maximum number of absences allowed to continue in the program.

Who will teach the classes?

Scroll down to see all the class instructors and to learn about their qualifications and experience.

What will the curriculum look like?

The curriculum will include the foundational skills you’d expect from a strong arts program, while exploring biblical themes and the intersection of art with faith. It will be developed as a combined effort between the program director, the instructors, and an advisory board. Draft curricula will be available to see at the time of application.

Will students have opportunities to perform or share their work?

Absolutely! Sessions will culminate in a showcase for the church that integrates each discipline from the program. Additional opportunities such as literary journals, lobby art exhibits, and creative elements for other Grace Church ministries are also likely.
