God tests Abraham’s faith by asking him to sacrifice his only son. In what must have been one of the darkest moments of Abraham’s life, he shows extraordinary faith in God’s ability to bring life out of death.

Study Questions

Application

  1. What would it look like for you to express your faith like Abraham did? What are you withholding from God, and what does that reveal about your faith?

  2. How does the reality of the resurrection impact your daily life?

Key Points

  • The resurrection is central to our faith. If it is not true, we have no hope and are to be pitied by others.

  • People of faith trust in God, not in a plan. We crave information and control, but God is more interested in our trust.

  • Abraham’s faith in God regarding Isaac flowed out of a bigger moment. He had seen God keep his promise in extraordinary ways.

  • Our faith is supposed to be in God, not in what he provides.

  • Faith in God frees us to obey, even in the darkest moments.

  • Jesus’ resurrection gives us courage to live and love in powerful ways.
