Missions Grants Spotlight | Furman FCA

Culturally Engaged

One facet of our Outreach ministry is Missions Grants—a funding program that invites our members to apply for yearly grants up to $2,500 to support specific projects or programs of their personal ministry.

As applications for Missions Grants are now open, we’d love to highlight the ministry of one of our current recipients. This year, Downtown member Joey Espinosa received a grant on behalf of Furman FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). Joey got connected with Furman FCA in the fall of 2023, and he helped launch a study for football players shortly afterwards. He has also helped our Downtown campus facilitate summer studies for men and women students, a mentoring program, and he was able to share his testimony at FCA this January. Joey shared this with us about his involvement:

“It was when I was a Furman student that I started attending and became a member of Grace Church (almost 30 years ago!). I was cared for and discipled by Grace then, and it is out of this gratitude that I am excited to do the same for others. It's been encouraging to see how many college students call Grace Church their church, and a number of them have become members or are moving towards membership.”

The grant money is being used to help provide copies of CORE, an 8-week study that covers the fundamentals of Christian faith. FCA leaders are serving their fellow students by offering this study to athletes in every sport, and they are also able to use funding to provide Bibles to students who want them.

One of the student leaders for Furman FCA shared this with us:

“One of our Bible study leaders texted me asking if he could get as many Bibles as we had. I asked him for a specific number. He told me he needed eight Bibles, and thanks to Grace Church’s grant, we had them! Some of his teammates had never even owned a Bible before. Without this grant, the basketball team would never have had the chance to start the study, and all the players would have had to purchase their own Bibles. Thank you, Grace Church, for making this all possible.”

We are thankful to Joey and the leadership at Furman FCA for sharing how God is working through this ministry. Many of our members are involved in personal ministry within their immediate community, and that’s why we offer Missions Grants.
