Nicaragua Missions 2026 | Building Strength
In partnership with Christ For the City International, 17 of our members recently traveled to the mountainous village of La Dalia, Nicaragua, to share in gospel work. There, amid banana and coffee plantations, they helped strengthen a local church—tangibly through the construction of a new concrete foundation around the existing structure, and spiritually, by sharing the Good News and helping develop local pastors and leaders.
For several of our members, this was their first international mission trip experience. “Shortly after arriving, we attended a local Spanish-language worship service and I found myself surrounded by believers I’d never met,” says Pelham member Whit Traweek. “They started singing Holy Forever. I remember thinking, they could be singing this same song at home right now, and we’re singing it here in Nicaragua. We’re worshiping the same God. You hear about the universal Church, but I had never really experienced it until this trip.”
In addition to leading pastoral development classes and building a new concrete foundation, our members served the small rural community by packing food bags and going door to door, praying with families and sharing the gospel. Whit says, “It never felt like we were dropping in for a one-time spiritual conversation and then disappearing. There was follow-up. There were relationships. The local church was with us, and they would still be there after we left.”
They prayed together a lot. “We would ask families how we could pray for them, and despite their poverty, almost nobody asked for prayer about material things,” says Whit. “Instead, they shared our common struggles: family issues, shame, busyness, spiritual apathy.” Whit described their bold voices in prayer. “They weren’t timid. They were asking God to move in big ways because they genuinely believed he could. It challenged me to think about how often I pray safe prayers—prayers that don't require much faith because I'm afraid God might not answer them.”
As our pastoral development in Rivas, Nicaragua, approaches the three-year mark, we are grateful for opportunities like this to explore other areas of potential ministry in Nicaragua alongside Christ For The City International. Will you join us in prayer for what the Lord has in mind for us next? As we pray, let's allow Whit’s reflection to linger in our hearts: “We’re brothers and sisters in Christ. We’re going to spend eternity together. One day, we won’t need translators. We’ll worship the same God together forever.” To learn more about our partnership in Nicaragua, click below.
