Titus | Studying Scripture without a Study
Titus, one of our summer studies, is not your typical study. In fact, there isn’t a workbook to complete or written material to read through besides the Bible. Participants spend time in Scripture, sit under teaching, and share in small group discussions. Why the different approach? Travelers Rest Discipleship & Groups Pastor Landon Jones puts it simply, “My prayer has been that men and women would have new thoughts and new applications from the Spirit that come from their own time in the Word.”
By introducing various study methods and resources (such as 7 Arrows of Bible Reading, Blue Letter Bible, and Observation, Interpretation, Application), leaders have challenged participants to study before hearing the teaching or engaging in discussions. A gentle rhythm of one chapter every two weeks helps reinforce at-home study time, and separate groups for men and women allow for more tailored discipleship.
In the same vein of personal responsibility, teaching application points were developed as a group effort among equipped leaders. “Titus has much to teach us about developing godly leaders,” says Travelers Rest Discipleship & Groups Minister Amy Kennedy. “The gospel, which saves us, also changes us. Through this study, we’re learning that it frees us to mature as a response.”
We are excited that our people are stepping into new pathways to explore the Bible and enrich their relationships with the Lord. Amy reminds us, “Always start by reading the Scripture and asking God to speak as you sit in his Word.” To learn more about the studies offered near you this summer, visit your campus page below.
