Supporting Children in Kenya

Culturally Engaged

This summer, a team of 12 adults and 10 students traveled to Kenya to support our partners in OVC Kenya, a program that provides sustainable support and promotes long-term relationships with orphans and vulnerable children in Kenya. Through our partnership with Bernard Kabaru and local churches in Limuru, Kenya, we are helping expand an existing program that provides physical, academic, and relational support to children in need within each church’s local community.

While there, our team hosted Vacation Bible School programs in local villages, and they also helped with a construction project for one of the OVC participant’s homes.

Many of our families at Grace Church function as advocates to support children and teens through the OVC program, and they communicate through letters over the course of years. Some of our advocates were on this trip, and they got to spend time with their Kenyan children/teens in person! Pelham member Matt Knarr and his daughter Haley got to spend time with Simon, whom they’ve been supporting for years, and his family. Matt shared this with us:

“We've been a part of the OVC program for over 10 years, and it's such a great program, but being able to wrap your arms around the people, and actually see and experience the life change happening first hand is amazing.”

This team also experienced God’s hand of protection in multiple ways. Many fell sick early in the trip, and thankfully, they were able to recover and finish their time in better health. Also, their travel to the airport at the end of the trip coincided with local political unrest, and God kept them safe in the midst of that turbulent scene.

Will you join us in thanking God for the privilege of serving around the world? If you are interested in learning more about our partnership with OVC Kenya, click below.
