Psalm 31:1-24

Psalm 31:1-24

Scripture

1 In you,Ā Lord, I have taken refuge;Ā Ā Ā Ā
let me never be put to shame;Ā Ā Ā Ā
deliver me in your righteousness.
2Ā Turn your ear to me,Ā Ā Ā Ā
come quickly to my rescue;
be my rock of refuge,Ā Ā Ā Ā
a strong fortress to save me.
3Ā Since you are my rock and my fortress,Ā Ā Ā Ā
for the sake of your nameĀ lead and guide me.
4Ā Keep me free from the trapĀ that is set for me,Ā Ā Ā Ā
for you are my refuge.
5Ā Into your hands I commit my spirit;Ā Ā Ā Ā
deliver me,Ā Lord, my faithful God.

6Ā I hate those who cling to worthless idols;Ā Ā Ā Ā
as for me, I trust in theĀ Lord.
7Ā I will be glad and rejoice in your love,Ā Ā Ā Ā
for you saw my afflictionĀ Ā Ā Ā
and knew the anguishĀ of my soul.
8Ā You have not given me into the handsĀ of the enemyĀ Ā Ā Ā
but have set my feet in a spacious place.

9Ā Be merciful to me,Ā Lord, for I am in distress;Ā Ā Ā Ā
my eyes grow weak with sorrow,Ā Ā Ā Ā
my soul and bodyĀ with grief.
10Ā My life is consumed by anguishĀ Ā Ā Ā
and my years by groaning;
my strength failsĀ because of my affliction,Ā Ā Ā Ā
and my bones grow weak.
11Ā Because of all my enemies,Ā Ā Ā Ā
I am the utter contemptĀ of my neighbors
and an object of dread to my closest friends—
those who see me on the street flee from me.
12Ā I am forgotten as though I were dead;Ā Ā Ā Ā
I have become like broken pottery.
13Ā For I hear many whispering,Ā Ā Ā Ā
ā€œTerror on every side!ā€
They conspire against meĀ Ā Ā Ā
and plot to take my life.

14Ā But I trustĀ in you,Ā Lord;Ā Ā Ā Ā
I say, ā€œYou are my God.ā€
15Ā My timesĀ are in your hands;Ā Ā Ā Ā
deliver me from the hands of my enemies,Ā Ā Ā Ā
from those who pursue me.
16Ā Let your face shineĀ on your servant;Ā Ā Ā Ā
save me in your unfailing love.
17Ā Let me not be put to shame,Ā Lord,Ā Ā Ā Ā
for I have cried out to you;
but let the wicked be put to shameĀ Ā Ā Ā
and be silentĀ in the realm of the dead.
18Ā Let their lying lipsĀ be silenced,Ā Ā Ā Ā
for with pride and contemptĀ Ā Ā Ā
they speak arrogantlyĀ against the righteous.

19Ā How abundant are the good thingsĀ Ā Ā Ā
that you have stored up for those who fear you,
that you bestow in the sight of all,Ā Ā Ā Ā
on those who take refugeĀ in you.
20Ā In the shelterĀ of your presence you hideĀ themĀ Ā Ā Ā
from all human intrigues;
you keep them safe in your dwellingĀ Ā Ā Ā
from accusing tongues.

21Ā Praise be to theĀ Lord,Ā Ā Ā Ā
for he showed me the wonders of his loveĀ Ā Ā Ā
when I was in a city under siege.
22Ā In my alarmĀ I said,Ā Ā Ā Ā
ā€œI am cut offĀ from your sight!ā€
Yet you heard my cryĀ for mercyĀ Ā Ā Ā
when I called to you for help.

23Ā Love theĀ Lord, all his faithful people!Ā Ā Ā Ā
TheĀ LordĀ preserves those who are true to him,Ā Ā Ā Ā
but the proud he pays backĀ in full.
24Ā Be strong and take heart,Ā Ā Ā Ā
all you who hope in theĀ Lord.
