Key Points
The place Joseph doesn’t want to be is exactly where God has him for a purpose (39:14-15, 40:1, 9-13).
In Genesis, dreams represent God at work. God is able to advance his purposes through the most powerful man in the world, even while that man is sleeping (40:1-8).
Pharaoh is accustomed to issuing decrees. Now he receives God’s decree and has no authority to impact what God is about to do. The “subject”—Pharaoh—has become the “object.” God is sovereign over sovereigns (40:25-32).
Joseph demonstrates integrity, humility, and courage. Rather than taking credit for his ability to interpret dreams, he corrects Pharaoh and gives credit to God. He speaks the truth without compromise, despite the risk of standing before Pharaoh’s throne (40:16, 25-36).
Application
We need to work through these issues in biblical community:Name your “Egypt” (the culturally accepted powers that seem to be in control but really aren’t)
Release it to God

Two full years later, Pharaoh dreamed that he was standing on the bank of the Nile River. In his dream he saw seven fat, healthy cows come up out of the river and begin grazing in the marsh grass. Then he saw seven more cows come up behind them from the Nile, but these were scrawny and thin. These cows stood beside the fat cows on the riverbank. Then the scrawny, thin cows ate the seven healthy, fat cows! At this point in the dream, Pharaoh woke up.
