Key Points

  • God’s plan involves bringing “outsiders” to the center of what He’s doing. Tamar and Perez exemplify this (Ruth 4:11-12). Joseph is an outsider in Egypt, yet God will bring great blessing through his circumstances.

  • Wherever believers go, they should bring blessings and make things better. (39:2-3)

  • We live in a culture that tells us our identity is being stolen if our freedom is taken away. But God’s boundaries are true freedom for us. Can I embrace God’s boundaries? (39:8-9)

  • Joseph could have responded to hardship by becoming bitter. Instead, he endured and continued to do good. In our suffering, we don’t get answers. We get God. (39:20-23)

Application

  • We tend to focus on the ups and downs of the present moment and lose sight of the bigger story. God sees the bigger picture and will use both good times and hard times to accomplish his greater plan. We need to entrust ourselves to God as Jesus did. (1 Peter 2:23)
